Robert Lewandowski spoke to Sir Alex Ferguson on the phone and almost joined Manchester United in the summer of 2012, but it didn’t happen.

Barcelona and Poland striker Robert Lewandowski has admitted. He almost joined Manchester City after speaking to Sir Alex Ferguson following his breakthrough season with Borussia Dortmund in 2011-12. The Manchester Evening News told the Manchester Evening News on Thursday UFABET

‘I remember a conversation with Sir Alex Ferguson. It was 2012 and I decided to go to Manchester United.’ Lewandowski began.

The Polish forward further explained that he knew Sir Alex was going to call him during pre-season. With Borussia Dortmund playing a couple of friendlies and Lewandowski was substituted at half-time. Because he had been anticipating the phone call.

‘I remember that conversation. It was pre-season and we were playing Borussia. I knew he would call me and at half-time I was substituted because I knew I would only play 45 minutes.’

As he waited for Sir Alex to call him.

He felt a little nervous, partly because his English was not as fluent as it is now. But he also knew who was on the other end of the line: Ferguson, with his distinct Scottish accent.

‘Then I got the phone call and at that time my English level was very different to what it is now. And especially if I was talking to someone who was calling me. Sir Alex Ferguson, with a Scottish accent.’

Despite his nerves, Lewandowski made it clear to Sir Alex that he was keen to join Manchester United.

‘Of course I know what to say to him, you know? Yes, I want to go to Manchester United,’ Lewandowski revealed.

However, the move never materialised. With Lewandowski moving to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2014 before moving to Barcelona in 2022.
